Debate Skills Development Course Held in Spring Semester

In the spring semester of the 2024/2025 academic year, our Faculty launched a new elective course titled “Debate! Developing Argumentation Skills”. The aim of the course was to enhance students' rhetorical abilities, logical reasoning, and confidence in public speaking. Over seven in-person sessions, nearly 20 students participated actively in various debate practices.

The course was based on the internationally recognized World Schools Style Debate (WSDB) format, which encourages structured, respectful, and logical argumentation. Students worked in teams to debate current social issues, rotating between roles such as speaker, adjudicator, and observer. Emphasis was placed on recognizing logical fallacies, using argumentation models (e.g., the Toulmin model), and mastering emotional control and constructive dialogue.

At the end of the semester, students presented their skills during the Faculty’s TDK Orientation Day through a live demonstration and a debate workshop, gaining further public speaking experience.
