Spanish Guest Lecturer within the Framework of EUGLOH

Manuel Flores Sáenz, a physician from the University of Alcalá, visited our Faculty on 13 May 2025 as part of the EUGLOH Connect program. During his visit, he gave a lecture to our first-year international nursing and physiotherapy students. The following day he held discussions with representatives of our Faculty’s units regarding potential future collaborations.

Manuel Flores Sáenz, a physician from the University of Alcalá in Spain, is currently a lecturer at the University’s Department of Surgery, Medical, and Social Sciences, where he teaches Human Anatomy. In addition, he teaches internationally in collaboration with the universities of Porto, Lund, Szeged, and Antioquia.

At our Faculty, he gave a lecture to first-year international nursing and physiotherapy students, covering topics such as stress, burnout, and the importance of proper time management.

“If you want to take care of others, you must take care of yourself first,” he stated during the lecture, where he emphasized the importance of quality sleep: “Melatonin levels in our body peak around midnight. It is worth taking advantage of this and going to sleep by midnight.”

At the end of the lecture, students asked Manuel how they could improve the quality of their sleep. “It’s important to have the right temperature, and there should be no electronic devices in the room. Before bed, focus only on relaxing activities, such as meditation,” advised the Spanish lecturer. He also provided practical tips on how to effectively balance university, studying, leisure, and sports in their daily lives.

One of the central topics of the lecture was stress. “We cannot live without stress. However, it is important to distinguish between good and bad stress. For example, going on vacation and taking an exam are completely different types of stress. We need balance, or we risk experiencing burnout.” – emphasized Manuel.

The day after the lecture, Manuel held discussions with representatives of our Faculty's units, including the Departments of Nursing, Physiotherapy, Theoretical Health Sciences and Health Management, as well as the Health Behavior and Development Research Group, regarding future collaboration opportunities. In addition to sharing valuable information about the Spanish institution, we also introduced him to our English-language programs.
