Exchange of experience with the Queen's University

Between June 24 and 26, 2024, a delegation from Queen's University Belfast, comprising 17 students and 2 instructors, Christine Brown Wilson and Gary Mitchell, participated in a series of academic and cultural events organized by the Department of Nursing at the Faculty of Health Sciences and Social Studies in Szeged.

The workshop provided an introduction to the topic of delirium, presenting its basics and significance. Participants learned about the symptoms, causes, and consequences of delirium. Through practical examples, they examined how to recognize delirium and its impact on patients' lives. The students gained insights into real cases and shared their experiences with each other. Additionally, there was a strong emphasis on prevention, focusing on how to minimize the risk of developing delirium. Participants also learned about brain health and dementia.

Discussions covered how professionals from various fields - doctors, nurses, midwives, physiotherapists, and other therapists - can effectively collaborate in a multidisciplinary team to treat and prevent delirium. Exercises aimed at improving teamwork and communication helped participants better understand each other's roles and contributions to patient care.

This workshop series provided an excellent opportunity for students to gain in-depth knowledge about delirium and prepare for its management in clinical practice. The program was well organized, offering valuable academic workshops and presentations, as well as cultural experiences that enriched the participants' understanding of Hungarian healthcare practices and culture. The collaboration emphasized the treatment of delirium and interdisciplinary approaches, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing health science education and practice.

The students thoroughly enjoyed the program and performed well in the various tasks and challenges. Their participation and enthusiasm contributed to successful collaboration and knowledge sharing. The experiences and knowledge gained from the workshops and social events will prove beneficial in their future professional careers.
