In the spring semester of the 2024/2025 academic year, the Faculty of Health Sciences and Social Studies at the University of Szeged (SZTE ETSZK) introduced a new elective course titled Mastering Presentation Techniques. Launched alongside the Debate and Argumentation Skills course, this new subject aimed to enhance students’ public speaking and communication skills in both academic and everyday contexts.
Over the course of seven 90-minute sessions, participants explored a variety of presentation styles—including visual, storytelling, teaching, coaching, and improvisational methods—and practiced techniques for body language, voice control, audience engagement, and speech structure. Instructors Katalin Julianna S. Dinnyés and Norbert Domonkos emphasized hands-on learning in a supportive environment that fostered confidence and creativity.
The course also included the analysis and presentation of scientific data, with special focus on creating clear, structured, and compelling presentations using health science databases and statistical information. Students learned to balance scientific credibility with audience accessibility, a key skill for effective knowledge dissemination.
The final session took place during the Faculty’s TDK Orientation Day, where students participated in real-world presentation activities. Feedback highlighted increased confidence, improved speaking abilities, and a greater willingness to present in public.
The elective course was taught and the report was prepared by:
